Travelling in style, Krizna Jama, Slovenia
elcome to Nottingham University Caving Club. We are a medium sized, non-elitest, friendly club where new members are always welcome, almost all of the members started as complete novices at the club. We run regular weekend trips around the UK with a Summer and Easter trip abroad. We cater for all abilities and provide instruction and equipment free of charge to our members. Trips have a relaxed atmosphere with plenty of social as well as caving opportunities for beginners, as well as experts.
The Caving Club offers excellent oppurtunities for you to do practically any outdoor activity you want, push your body to the limit and expand your horizons beyond anything you have ever done before. Due to the varied nature of caving there are elements of many outdoor sports thrown into the mix such as climbing, scrambling, hiking, abseiling, swimming and mountaineering to name but a few.
What other club can boast to offer you the oppurtunities to; travel the world, walk on vast glaciers high in remote mountains, relax in the Mediterranean sun, descend over 1000m below the planet's surface, walk through cave systems hundreds of kilometres long, go where no human has ever been before, travel through massive underground chambers formed millions of years ago, walk at altitudes of 2000m+, see extremely rare Sites of Specific Scientific Interest, see vast underground lakes, rivers and waterfalls, visit caves that have lain undiscovered for millenia, meet some of the rarest creatures on the planet, travel down fast flowing white water rivers, spend time in the Alps and return you safely home in time for Tea and Medals?
The only limits in our lives are those we accept ourselves.

| Gold STARS Award Posted by Ralph Delaney on May 09, 2007
Word on the street has it that the caving club has won the Gold STARS award, this became apparent to me while listening in on other peoples conversations in Sainsbury's (Castle Boulevard) car park last night. I have confirmed this on the Students Union website this morning.
The Bronze and Silver STARS awards are awarded on a basis of the ability to fill in forms and attend meetings, however Gold is given to those clubs that have made some impressive achievements in the past year and are efficiently run and well organised. If you want to read our nine page long application form for the Gold STAR you should probably seek help or speak to me (Ralph).

| New Equipment Order Posted by Ralph on December 20, 2006
With thanks to the nice people at KPMG, Mark Epps and Garry Leeson the club has purchased over £700 worth of new equipment, this includes:- 3 oversuits
- 3 undersuits
- £200 of new rescue equipment
- 200m of rope
Over the last few years the club has been decommissioning its old FX2 lamps and purchasing more powerful FX3s. At £131 each this has not been easy. However, the club now has 14 complete FX3s and has just spent £30 and intends to spend a further £45 upgrading the older design headsets to ensure maximum reliability underground.
| CONDUCT OF PLAYERS TOWARDS MATCH OFFICIALS Posted by Andy on November 30, 2006
Forwarded from BUSA:
There has been a worrying trend that has been brought to our attention over recent weeks of officials suffering verbal abuse from teams. As you will all be aware, the booking of officials for Wednesday afternoon sport is increasingly difficult, these volunteers are giving up their time to enable the BUSA league programme to continue to thrive, however they will not continue to do so if they are subjected to abusive behaviour from teams.
Equally BUSA relies on many other volunteers to organise events on our behalf and again I have received reports of abusive behaviour and more stealing following last weeks episodes at the BUSA Badminton Individual Championships and the Short Course Swimming where both BUSA and institutional banners went missing.
Institutions are reminded of REG 23.11 and the responsibility they have towards their teams. Whilst these complaints remain isolated incidents to date, BUSA views these actions very seriously and will take action against universities if this continues. Therefore we would remind all institutions to ensure that competitors and supports are all reminded of their responsibilities whilst attending a BUSA event.
The Caving club takes matter like this very seriously. If any member of the club is brought to discipline whilst representing NUCC at a BUSA event, then they will forfeit all free half time tea and cakes, as well as their free transport allowance for the remainder of the academic year - NUCC exec
| Explicit Material Posted by Ralph on November 07, 2006
There has recently been an ingenious idea from the SU to start trawling through all of the club websites looking for pornography and explicit material instead of doing the jobs we pay our tuition fees for them to do. If we (the committee) accidentally upload lots of naked page 3 girls instead of a trip report, please inform us before we get into trouble!
Your help through this difficult time would be much appreciated,
Ralph
| Titan Shaft Film! Posted by Andy on November 06, 2006
An amazing video showing what caving is all about can be downloaded here (Right click, "Save Link As..." 21 MB). It's the best video I've ever seen showing what caving is really like! Just ignore everything the guy is saying, because he didn't do his research (for example, this system is still 60 m short of being the UK's deepest cave - although it is still one of the most spectacular!)

| West Brecon Cave Rescue Break In Posted by Ralph on May 17, 2006
WBCRT was broken into (14/05/2005) and a cave rescue landrover and specialist rescue equipment was stolen, totalling about £40,000. What kind of mentality do the thieves have to steal rescue equipment?
Update: Most of the equipment has been recovered; the landrover was found abandoned in the woods nearby - Andy
