About SRT Training

We run SRT training on Wednesday afternoons using a tree by the side of the lake, roughly opposite to the Trent building. Training in a tree allows us to set up ropes in different ways to simulate the various situations that you will encounter underground. We require each member to attend at least 2 sessions before doing SRT in a cave, but no training is needed for purely 'horizontal' caving (if you are unsure whether a trip has horizontal or vertical caves then just ask). Of course, you can come to as many training sessions as you like, as the more you practise rope techniques the easier in a cave it will be; but don't worry - there will always be someone in the cave to help out if you forget something.

When we are running training sessions we meet at a set time in Stores (for direction to Stores, see the contact us page) and we will send out emails to everyone to let them know when we are training. If you can't come right at the beginning of the session, then you can meet us later on by the tree (directions below). After a few hours in the tree we will pack everything up and head home to get ready for the social in the evening.

Directions to Tree

From NUCC stores (see the contact us page)

• From stores, turn right (towards the Portland Building) at the top of the stairs;
• Follow the road down to the steps leading to the Trent building car park;
• Turn right and go through the Trent building courtyard;
• Keep walking forwards until you see a path into the trees on your left;
• Follow the path down the steps, then cross the bridges directly ahead of you;
• After the second bridge, turn right and follow the path along the lake;
• A short distance down here you will see us gathered around a tree on your left.
