Registration for trips will happen at a social a couple of weeks in advance, payment can be made by cash or cheque at the social or via our pigeonhole in Student Activities in the Portland building (see contact us page).
All we need is a £20 deposit and a few contact details to secure a place. Trips cost £35 for novices' trips and £40 for standard trips. This covers accommodation, transport and food (only just - we never profit from trips and generally make a loss!). Remember, for insurance and kit hire purposes you need to be a member to come on trips.
Kit — Please pack as lightly as possible as there is only a small amount of room on the minibus for your own bag. You will only need a few things as the club will provide all equipment needed for caving. For a list of sensible kit to bring, click here (.pdf link).
Here is a brief itinerary for a normal trip;
Friday
• Everyone arrives at the caving equipment stores, usually at 6.00PM.
• We pack all of our equipment and load it onto the minibus, leaving campus by 7.30PM.
• At some point on the journey, we stop at a supermarket to buy food for the weekend. If you haven't had dinner or didn't bring food or drink, you can buy some now!
• Once we get to the caving hut, we unload the bus and relax for the evening.
Saturday
• The committee wake up at 08.00AM to prepare a delicious breakfast for everyone.
• You have a lie-in, unless you really want to help. Then, at 09.00AMish (when it's ready), we eat!
• Once we decide which caves to go to, we get the equipment ready, then go caving!
• After caving, everyone regroups back at the hut and usually have showers (not together).
• Dinner is prepared and cooked, then eaten depending on how well the first two went.
• More relaxing/socialising and caving games before bed!
Sunday
• Sundays are identical to Saturdays up to the dinner part.
• After caving, we will pack up the bus and head back to Nottingham.
• On the journey back we will stop somewhere for fast food, usually a service station.
• We typically get back to Nottingham around 10.00-11.00PM, then we unload the bus.
• Once the equipment is safely back in stores and sorted out, we can all go home and sleep.
